"Sausage Tree"
The Kigelia Africana tree's sausage-like fruit are loved by baboons, monkeys, porcupines, birds and elephants. At night, the flowers remain open to be pollinated by bats and hawk-moths, In Kenya, the Kikuyu people ferment the dried fruit with honey to make a sweet beer called muratina. These trees are sacred to many communities. Luo people bury a fruit to symbolise the body of a lost person believed to be dead. This fabric design 1s celebration of our culture and nature.
