LUCKY HUNT
The seeds of the Coral Tree (Erythrina Lysistemon) are also known as ‘lucky beans’ and worn as decorative beads to bring good fortune. Lucky bean trees are planted as living fences around kraals, homesteads and waterholes. The seeds attract, amongst others, the grey go-away-bird (also known as grey loerie or kwêvoël) who’s known to make noise when it spots a hunter in the veld. All these factors might determine who’ll be lucky; the hunter, or the hunted?
